In Loving Memory Of Flash
Flash came into the California GSP Rescue at 18 months old with a deformed leg. After having Flash examined, Dr Kang recommended removing the external leg as well as the portion of the leg that appeared to have grown inside the body. Later Dr Kang would learn that Flash had two right limbs, one that had grown on the outside of his body and the other that had grown internally.
When Flash came into the rescue, he captured the hearts of all those who met him. All of the volunteers fell in love with this amazing little guy with a huge personality, and were so humbled by the fact that he was not at all hindered by the fact that he only had 3 legs.
In April of 2014, Brenda applied with us to find a companion for her 4 year old GSP Lily, as her older dog Bandit was 14, and Lily needed a playmate. When we presented Flash to Brenda, there was no hesitation about wanting to meet Flash, and Flash was the only dog she wanted to meet. Flash still needed to undergo surgery, and while Brenda was so excited to take Flash home, they waited patiently for the surgery, and recovery time that took a little longer than expected. A couple of weeks after the surgery, the day came when Brenda and her husband Randy, could make the long drive to meet the new member of their family. For Lily and Flash, it was love at first site, and they got along great, like two GSP's in a pod. For Brenda, this was her boy, and there was no question... He was going home.
We recently received the sad news that Flash has passed away. We are so grateful to Brenda and Randy who never gave Flash's disability even a second thought, and just as dogs themselves do, they loved him unconditionally.
“From the very second, we heard Flash’s story we knew he was meant to be part of our family. We were looking for a friend for our 4-year-old GSP Lily. I had contacted the California GSP Rescue and had told them our story and Flash was the first pup that Teri referred to us. I made arrangements to take Lily to the rescue to meet Flash as soon as he had recovered from his surgery. Lily and Flash were instant friends!
Flash made his journey to Las Vegas to his forever home. Flash was a special guy not just because he only had 3 legs, but he had the ability to make everyone that he met, fall in love with him. Flash was the star of the neighborhood. Everyone knew where Flash the 3-legged GSP lived. He once caught a robber that had broken into a neighbor’s house and then tried to hide in our backyard. Flash cornered the robber until the police arrived.
Flash loved to go on walks and visit the neighbors. Flash loved to play fetch. He was so fast when he would run across the yard. Flash crossed the Rainbow Bridge on October 16, 2023.
Something tells me that even on the other side of the bridge Flash is still running on his 3 legs because that was what made him. We will forever miss your smile Flash!! Run free Flash Man”!
