From Stray to Rescue: Embrace Dawn's Heartwarming Journey

Dawn

Abandoned and lost, Dawn, a spirited 9-month-old German Shorthaired Pointer, found herself at the mercy of animal control when she was picked as a stray and deposited into one of the few available kennels at the county animal shelter. Instead of spending the next several days romping and playing, this innocent young soul sat waiting in a kennel in a sea of abandoned dogs. Hopefully, her owner would arrive shortly, and she would once again be playing. At the same time, the Animal Control Officers debated the probability of her being dumped due to a medical condition and the unlikely chance the owner would come to claim her. Animal Control sent a desperate plea for help, suggesting the shelter's suspicion of Dawn's prolapsed uterus and the urgent requirement for immediate medical attention.

California GSP Rescue received the Animal Shelter's message and emerged as a beacon of hope, ready to assist Dawn with any medical attention she might need and finding her a forever home. Fate intervened once more as Ericka, a compassionate soul from One Dane At A Time, emerged to pick up Dawn from the animal shelter and transport her to meet Volunteer Greg. With a Great Dane in tow and an adorable GSP puppy, Ericka passed Dawn to Volunteer Greg, where she would begin the second leg of her journey and be one step closer to a forever home.

Early the next day, Volunteer Greg loaded Dawn up for a trip to be examined by Dr. Kang, who would play a pivotal role in revealing Dawn's remarkable, one-of-a-kind nature. After arriving in the exam room and being greeted by the bouncy puppy, Dr. Kang began his exam knowing the Animal Shelter's original concern. Within a few minutes, Dr. Kang discovered that Dawn didn't suffer from a prolapsed uterus but was a considerably more unique canine. Having been born with the genitalia of male and female, Dawn was intersex or non-binary - the first for California GSP Rescue.

While California GSP Rescue has had Dawn's delightful company for just a short time, it has become abundantly clear that she is not only physically unique but also an irresistible charm while exhibiting some essential responsiveness to learning. Remarkably, she has effortlessly forged connections with every dog she encounters, even those initially overwhelmed and annoyed by her exuberance, while ultimately tolerating her spirited nature. As interest in Dawn is bound to surge, we at California GSP Rescue remain steadfast in our commitment to assuring her a perfect forever home. If your heart resonates with Dawn's story and you yearn to give her the love she deserves, we ask you to complete an adoption application. The sooner, the better - we do not expect her to be with us long. Alternatively, if adoption is not feasible for you now, consider joining our revered Rescue Heroes. By contributing monthly, your support will help alleviate incidental veterinary expenses, mirroring the invaluable assistance Dawn herself has received. Together, let us ensure that Dawn's remarkable journey concludes with the lifelong happiness she deserves.
