Cristal is adopted!

When the Shelter first contacted California GSP Rescue about helping Cristal, the Animal Shelter sent a photo of her. She looked like a little Pointer. In her medical notes, it stated she trembled. However, she was much smaller than she looked in the photo when she arrived. In addition, she appeared to have some other medical issues with her back legs supporting her weight. Her size wasn't a concern. She was cute and sweet, she would give hugs, but she needed to see Dr. Kang for her medical issues. A short time later, Dr. Kang examined her and stated she would grow out of the trembling and the problem with her back legs not fully supporting her weight. Cristal would remain in foster care, where she could be monitored. When she was ready to be adopted, Joanna had submitted an application. She looked to be the perfect home for Cristal. An appointment was made for the family and their dogs to meet her. After socializing Cristal with the dogs and educating the family about everything known about Cristal, they decided to adopt her. However, we're sure Noa already had made up his mind to adopt her before meeting her! The following is Joanna's account of meeting and adopting Cristal, now known as Jane!

When we first saw Cristal online and started the process of getting to meet her, our son Noa was certain that her name was Jane. Apparently Jane agreed because she almost immediately answered to her new name. Jane is absolutely the sweetest little girl on the planet. We've had visits from our grown children over the holidays and it was love at first sight for them too! Jane is very healthy. She eats well, plays happily and sleeps well. She has a nice easy going personality. While we don't consider ourselves experts in training, Jane has learned sit, down and stay. She comes when she's called by name or when she hears the little tune I whistle to call her brothers, a dachshund mix, Slim Shorty and a terrier mix Gucci. Both dogs are rescues and came with those names which we thought were funny and fit them. Although she was new to the leash Jane is polite and walks without pulling. We just have work to do to keep her from zigzagging!

We watched carefully in the beginning to make sure all our dogs would get along safely. Our dachshund Slim who had been quite a handful at the rescue turned out to be the one to watch over Jane and make sure that our terrier Gucci wouldn't herd her too diligently. Gratefully they have turned into a happy pack. Potty training has come along well too. There is no longer any peeing in the house. Our routine is that Jane sleeps in her crate at night and when we get up in the morning she goes outside with her brothers and pees. While watching her we noticed that when she needed to go she would often head to the back of the house. So whenever she heads back there we know to let her outside. Breakfast is at 7am and shortly afterwards the dogs go outside again. They run around the yard and play. They are in and out most of the day and in the afternoon we take a nice long walk. Hopefully in the future Jane will take a cue from her brothers and be "productive" during her walks, but she is still a puppy and is more interested in sightseeing and sniffing!

Dinner is at 5pm. Shortly after they all go out. At night all three pups turn into couch potatoes. Janey as I call her, loves to snuggle. I had heard that she actually gave hugs and she truly does! At bedtime everyone heads out one last time. What can we say? Jane is a perfect addition to our family. She brings love wherever she goes and we are happy to soak it in and give it back to her.

Thanks to Joanna for adopting and working with Jane on the house training and the obedience commands. It isn't always easy introducing a new dog into a new home and pack. Still, the effort of making things work pays enormous dividends. If you are interested in adopting and making an investment of time with notable returns, please submit an adoption application here

We're looking forward to hearing more updates from Joanna and Noa about Jane!
