Cody Is Safe!

Cody

Injured dogs at shelters have a difficult time finding forever homes. Regardless of their age, most potential adopters will pass them by concerned about the possible medical expenses. Most visitors to the shelter aren't looking to shell out a lot of money on a dog. There are plenty of dogs to choose from, and why would they pick one that will cost them more than a checkup when they take them to their Vet. Cody was fortunate. While he did show up to a local shelter injured after being attacked by dogs, he was lucky his injuries were superficial.

The first image that California GSP Rescue saw of Cody prompted an immediate response. One of the volunteers reached out to the shelter to see if he needed to be seen by a Vet. Fortunately, the shelter had a Vet, and Cody was cleaned up and prescribed antibiotics. He would be held the standard holding period of five business days to see if his owner would claim him.

Unsure if his owner would claim him or not, California GSP Rescue made the necessary arrangements to pick him up if he was at the shelter after the holding period. They monitored him to see if anyone came to pick him up. No one did.

When Cody became available, a California GSP Rescue Volunteer headed to the shelter. It was late in the day, and with the time change, it was dark when they arrived. The animal shelter was appointment only, one had to make an appointment to view available animals, but no one was waiting to see any dogs that late. After checking in, the Volunteer waited patiently.

After several minutes, the Animal Control Officer brought Cody to the front desk. The Volunteer signed the paperwork and leashed Cody. He was a little subdued as he was neutered earlier in the day, but he was happy to get out on the grass and have his first steps of freedom. Cody was safe.
