Boomer Is Safe!

Boomer is SafeBoomer's Second Time At The Shelter

Marylin asked, "There is a German Shorthaired Pointer at a shelter. If you can take him, I can get him to you."Marylin, a long time respected rescuer, said Boomer was the dog's name and as it turns out, there is more to his story. He had shown up as a stray to the shelter a few years earlier. Like most young purebred dogs, he received a lot of attention and was adopted. The shelter, wanting to find homes rather than euthanize, didn't have the resources to screen potential adopters and was happy to see him adopted. Unfortunately, the adopter had little knowledge of the breed and was likely overwhelmed early on attempting to manage a young German Shorthaired Pointer. While the adopters did keep him for a few years, he eventually was returned to the shelter. Boomer's second visit to the shelter, he was a little older and not as desirable as he was when he was just a few years younger. He was kept kenneled many days before Marylin learned he was at the shelter.

Boomer Is Boomer

Boomer is active and even at four years of age has the energy of a one to two year old GSP. Someone knowledgeable about the breed knows that getting a GSP enough exercise is key. If you don't, well, let's just say that is when stuff gets chewed. A bored GSP can be destructive while a tired GSP is a good GSP.When training a GSP, you first start by exercising them. Without the exercise, your training sessions can be frustrating and unproductive. Training is essential with any young GSP, and can help curb unwanted behavior that bubbles up. Boomer had very little, if any, training.

Boomer Is Safe

The majority of dogs we take in have lacked exercise and training. Taking in a four year old that has lacked both isn't anything new. Our answer to Marylin's question was simply,"yes, we can help."GSP owners know that an investment of time into exercising and training pays huge dividends. Most adopters are amazed how quickly their newly adopted GSPs make this transformation with the initial investment. We're certain that Boomer's adopter will be amazed shortly after he is adopted.Special thanks to Marylin, Kenny, Shawna, Betsy, & Greg for helping get Boomer from the shelter one step closer to a forever home.
