Blitz Is Adopted!
Blitz ran loose until he was caught and taken to the local Shelter. Listed as a stray, did someone dump him, or did he escape? That's a question we will never know. The Animal Shelter listed him as one year old, possibly because of his activity mobile, but we think he might be a couple of years older. However, even at one-year-old no one wanted to adopt him. Fortunately, another rescue saw him and notified California GSP Rescue, and we found him the perfect family!
Rebecca and John are long time GSP owners. They have had GSP’s, English Pointers, and a beloved Bluetick Coonhound, named Blue. They recently lost their 13 year old Pointer Daisy, and their almost 17 year old GSP, Gus, in a short amount of time in 2021. They doted over their dogs, and the devotion they had for each one was utterly selfless, in sickness and in health. Two people with huge hearts of gold. Rebecca has always been a supporter of many rescues from coast to coast, donating her beautiful home made blankets for rescue fundraisers and dogs in need of a comfort blanket.
After Gus passed away, they were without a dog in their home for the first time in years. While they knew they would add to their family one day, they weren’t quite ready.
Meanwhile, a friend of theirs who happens to be a volunteer with the rescue, was on the lookout for a dog she felt could be a good match for them. She asked them to complete an application, and spoke with them about what they were looking for in a dog. They didn’t want a puppy, but weren’t ready to take on a senior dog after losing Gus, but were open to an adult dog that would be fairly easy going, and a dog they could take traveling with them. They didn’t have a long list of requirements. Bottom line, they wanted to provide a home for a dog in need. It was as simple as that.
Just around the time all of the discussions were taking place, Blitz arrived at the rescue. After evaluating him, there was no doubt that this could be Rebecca and John’s next dog. They watched our Facebook Live’s on Saturday when Blitz was featured, and learned more about him through their adoption counselor, Teri, and decided they would like to meet him. They waited a few weeks until he could be neutered and fully vetted, and then made the long trip to meet who could possibly their new family member.
They were assured that this was a meet and greet, and there was no obligation to adopt a dog on the day of their visit. It is of the utmost importance that there is a connection and that it was understood that if there was not a connection, or if they wanted to go home and think about it and come back again, that was encouraged if there was any doubt. Well, this is how the meeting went. 5 minutes in, John was smitten. It was as if Blitz had been his dog all his life. Instant connection. Rebecca sat back and smiled as John talked to Blitz and said, “I think he is the one”. The rest is history, and Blitz, now known as Otto is settled in and doing well in his new forever home! And boy did he hit the jackpot!
“Blitz now known as Otto is a charmer and has fit right into our family. He is a hoot an a half. When we first got him home he was not to sure about the house sounds tv, kitchen drawers closing, the dryer but it took him a few days to get over that. The adoption process was fab. Teri matched the perfect boy for our needs. This breed needs exercise, exercise, exercise. Otto walks twice a day and we introduced him to the pool last week - which he loves.
His favorite things: chasing lizards, swimming, car rides, and his toys. (he has 3 baskets around the house and moves them all around). Haha! He is very very talkative - he has alot to tell you!
He just adores John, and we adore him! Thank you Teri and GSP Rescue for bringing Otto into our life”.
