Aurora Is Adopted!

Aurora with Bradley

Aurora, a one-year-old female German Shorthaired Pointer was rescued from a local shelter where her owner had surrendered her, someone later adopted her and a few days later returned her. A ton of energy bottled up in this little girl, we were devoted to find her the right home where she would get the attention, training and exercise she needed.

Bradley applied after unexpectedly losing his last GSP.  He adopted her from a shelter when she was quite young, and she’d already been through five homes. Bradley was committed and worked with her training as well as all the exercise a young GSP needs.  She and Bradley were a pair and she went with him almost everywhere he was allowed to take her.

He applied and knew how to work with a younger GSP and we knew he’d do well with many of our energetic young females.  He was not picky on looks, but really wanted a nice fit for his lifestyle. He met a couple of dogs, but Aurora had his full attention from the moment he met her.  She’s been home with him for a while now and he has worked quite a bit with her, (and continues to work quite a bit), on her training and is committed to daily exercise.  Many days she is going for 10-16 miles, and this is a girl that can handle (and needs) that sort of exercise.  He has been loving her and feels she really loves him and her new life as well.  We are always thankful for adopters like Bradley and are so thankful to be able to work with them.

“It’s been over a month and a half since Aurora came home with me from The Rescue. Her new home is in Bishop, CA where, after a few days of recall training on a 25’ lead, she was allowed to be off-leash in the open pastures and undeveloped high desert lands that surround her house. She’s a completely different dog now that she gets to run and smell to her heart’s desire without being tethered to a slow human.

I had to hold her back the first week or so until her tender paw pads got toughened up. Her GPS tracking collar logs mostly 5-to-10-mile days with some occasional 15-mile days. She stays amazingly close to me, circling and investigating anything that moves or smells good. She is very good at healing after she’s been exercised. She loves to swim and will even recall from across the 20’ wide canal that parallels one of our walking routes. She likes to play with her stuffed toys, fetch tennis balls, and enjoys sleeping in, long naps, and riding in the car.

Although she does have some quirks that we are working through, I’m so happy we found each other; she means the world to me. I want to thank Andrea, Greg, and the California GSP Rescue for trusting me with beautiful Aurora and taking her to her forever home”.
