snake avoidance Training

Kelly Burch is again providing snake avoidance training classes. With 50% of the proceeds donated to GSP Rescue, this year the snake avoidance classes have generated nearly $1000 in much needed revenue. Clinics are approx. 2 hours and space is limited.

Next classes:

Fresh dogs and retraining. Contact us to reserve your spot!

You will learn the habits and locations of snakes, the time and weather in which they appear and a few chilling details which can save YOUR life as well as your dog's. We will teach the "types" of snakebites, venom and effects of envenomation. You will also be informed about the myths of treatment and given correct veterinary procedure, just in case "someone you know" has a dog bitten and taken to a vet who slept through his course work at "Ye Olde Sawbones Tech Institute." (YEOSTI has a number of grads out there!) This de-bunking alone could very well save a bitten dog!

We move from this portion of the class to training, by teaching your dog to recognize the scent, sight and sound of a rattler. Remembering that training is a series of exposures, not a shock-and-run-gimic, we place the dogs in scenarios which are increasingly difficult for the detection of snakes.

Cost is $75 and requires a 50% deposit to reserve a space. There is a requested donation to GSP Rescue for rechecks for previously trained dogs "In an amount which reflects the love of their dog and support for the rescue mission..."
